Ruth starts something on Washington Road
Ruth opened her restaurant on Washington Road with a simple idea: honest Southern cooking, no pretension, in a place that felt like home. Augusta took to it almost immediately.
Fifty years, nothing changed on purpose
While trends came and went, Ruth's stayed the same — red vinyl booths, hot coffee, and biscuits regulars have called near-mythical. Real food, real people, no shortcuts.
The day Augusta grieved a closure
In November 2023, Ruth's announced it would close — and the response was immediate, covered by WJBF News, Kicks 99, and The Food Section. People mourned not just a restaurant, but the booth where they'd eaten with their grandparents.
Still here, still serving
By December 27th, Ruth's reversed course — the doors stayed open, and that marquee said it all: "Thanks for your support." Come in Tuesday through Sunday, order the biscuits, and take the booth your family has always taken.
